THE PIANO OF EMOTIONS

A successful musical event at the cultural society Il Carroccio has exhibited the play of the pianist and composer Gianfranco Quaini, who has performed his compositions (most of which are used to accompany radio and television programs on the national channels). Quaini opened the evening with ‘Alessio’, a touching piece he dedicated to his beloved son, which flows intimately and evokes the birth of a child and the father’s first anxieties mixed with a natural pride. Throughout the evening Quaini received a great deal of well-deserved applause. Among other numbers, the pianist played ‘Incanto’, a piece that expresses the concept of a dream which recurs in other compositions of the Maestro. In this piece, written during the ‘intimist’ period, the author accentuates emotive rather than outward shadings, employing tonalities unusual for the light music. It was followed by ‘Elena’, written on the request from the parents who had experienced the tragic loss of a young daughter; . “Passeggiando nel bosco”, one of the artist’s early compositions; and “Notturno d’amore”, a very melodic piece that tells the story of two lovers. Many other pieces were also played: “Cristalli nel buio”, “serenata veneziana”, “Poesia di un amore finito”, “Stella d’agosto”, “Tempo perduto”, “Sabrina”, “Concerto”, the latter being a love anthem which brought to a close the first part of the program, to the applause of the large audience. Eight more pieces, ad addition to the program, and an encore were offered in the second part of this rich performance, including “Oltre il muro”, “Frammenti d’estate”, “Appuntamento di un sogno in mi”, in which the artist recounts emotions stirred up by a dream. “Dedicata a te” was a moving piece in loving memory of the composer’s father. With ‘Pianissimo’, a piece that falls particularly easy on the ears, the composer touched a cord by a perfect harmony of his instrument and the feeling. The following “Le mie mani nelle tue” speaks about the love of art. “Pigalle” was performed out of program, on request, and “Le mie mani nelle tue” for an encore. After this, at the end of the concert, the traditional token of appreciation (a plate) was presented to the Maestro who gave so much joy to the large audience at the Carroccio.

PIANIST QUAINI’S KEYBOARD CONJURES UP A SCORE OF DREAMS AT THE CARROCCIO

Gianfranco Quaini, the pianist and composer from Cremona, has recently been the main attraction of a musical event at the cultural society il Carroccio With his professionalism and virtuosity at the piano, with an ability to carry the evening as a consummate entertainer, Maestro Quaini began his recital with a sequence of musical themes from famous films (‘Il Padrino’, ‘Anonimo Veneziano’, ‘L’amore è una cosa meravigliosa’). The pianist, best known as the former host of ‘Gocce di caffè’ on Telelibertà, later turned to the music world of Naples by performing two excellent versions of ‘Malafemmena’ of A. De Curtis e ‘Anema e core’ of D’Esposito. But the most exhilarating moment of the recital came when Quaini demonstrated his well-recognized gifts as a composer by presenting to the public some of his compositions, such as “Pigalle”, “Passione”, “Nostalgia di zingaro” and the piece of delicate sensibility, ‘Pianissimo’, particularly appreciated by the large audience. Another string of international favorites followed - “Solamente una vez”, “Bèsame mucho”, “La Paloma” e ancora “Tea for two”, “Guantanamera”, “Quizas, quizas, quizas”, “Let’s twist again”, to segue into the Maestro’s own cha cha cha ‘Mexicana’, to the applause of the public. In sum, the evening was a complete success, and in the interval, Armando Fornasari, the president of the Carroccio, awarded the Maestro with a commemorative plate. The Maestro has also hosted numerous radio and television programs. He has recently participated in the Oscar Night at the Fillodrammatica Theater in our city.

GIANFRANCO QUAINI HAS RECORDED ‘ROMANTICO PIANOFORTE’ FEATURING 1950S MUSIC

Gianfranco Quaini is establishing himself in the music world. There are not too many pianists in the parts of it where Quaini has found his nich, and he is now experiencing a moment of success thanks to his debut work ‘Romantico Pianoforte’, which was first presented on Radio Cremona in the program Voci della sera. The album contains 12 swing pieces from the 1940s and 1950s, rearranged for the orchestra and the modern taste. The titles offered by Quaini and his piano include, to name a few, “Silenzioso slow”, “Un’ora sola ti vorrei”, “Tea for two”, “Malafemmena”. That is to say, a repertoire beloved of the gray-haired, but anyway famous enough to the appreciated by the younger generation as well. This album will be followed by others, reviving past successes in a modern key, yet always faithful to the originals.
